Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after March of that year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.

However the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour championship, took control to force a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial break points in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
