Automobiles in German Town Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Officers stated they were notified by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then located multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities said they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.

An important political figure said the vandalism left him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
